Canonpoint: Near the end of Chapter 2 of Therion's path, after retrieving the ruby dragonstone but before reporting in to Heathcote and Cordelia.
Canon Summary: Therion's History on the Octopath Traveler Wiki
Octopath Traveler offers its players eight different characters and stories to play in any order and combination they choose. For my purposes, Therion's canonpoint is set after the second chapters of the other party members' stories, too. That means he'll have been working and traveling with Octopath's other main characters for a while.
Regains:
1. Ruby Dragonstone - A brilliant round gemstone bigger than a man's fist. In its original world, it's probably magic, but here and now it'll do for a ludicrously decadent paperweight.
2. Bangle's Key - This small iron key doesn't look like it would fit any modern lock.
3. Apothecary's Salve - Inside this small pot is an ointment that smells strongly of herbs and greenery. It's no Neosporin, but it feels great on weals and welts.
4. Letter to Noa - A sealed scroll of parchment addressed to one Noa Wyndham. Inside, you find not only normal keeping-up correspondence, but what appears to be part of a story about a brave princess and a dashing, lonely thief. It's... floridly written.
5. Thief's Tools - A set of picks and skeleton keys on an iron ring. A thief could count himself lucky to have such an extensive collection... if he lived in the Dark Ages.
6. Piercing Dagger - Phys. Atk. +59, Evasion +27. Can help you evade piercing questions, too, if you stab someone with it and run away.
7. RENEWABLE: Apple - A fresh, red apple. Cronch.
Trait List:
1. Cynical: Trust nothing, nowhere, and no one. It's not that he thinks the whole world's personally out to get him, but people are out for themselves. That's just how things work. His mistrust also extends to concepts and knowledge others take for granted. After all, why should anything work a certain way just because you believe it should?
2. Resourceful: In the lawless, dog-eat-dog world of crime, thinking on your feet is vital when you don't have the size or power to take what you want by force. Therion's clever enough to use what's around him in tandem with his own strengths and weaknesses to create fast, flexible plans.
3. Cocky: Therion is a quick-thinking, talented thief. Unfortunately, he knows it. Like many a healthy young man, he thinks he can pull off just about anything.
4. Tenacious: No matter what, he straight-up refuses to lie down and say die. Once he has committed to something, he'll push himself through every obstacle in his path. If he doesn't ensure his own survival, who will?
5. Short-sighted: While he's a schemer, he's not much of a dreamer--or rather, Therion's better with on-the-fly thinking than he is at foreseeing possible long-term consequences. Combined with a tendency towards overconfidence, he can get himself in trouble.
6. Observant: It might seem odd after calling him short-sighted, but in the moment, Therion's quick to take in the circumstances--note important personalities, mark exits, find likely spots for ambush, sniff out valuables, and so on. A short encounter is often enough for him to find a weak point, dissemble effectively, or sneak around an obstacle towards his goal.
7. Laconic: His main complaint about other people is that they talk too much. He himself prefers to keep his own counsel, even when he's not worried about exposing too much. People are so noisy.
8. Laissez-faire: Though he could be cruel or resentful of his lot in life, overall, Therion is remarkably unconcerned with the world outside his next mark and his next meal. Other people's problems are so not his problem, and he'd usually rather disengage than offer an opinion.
9. Opportunistic: A long career of living off others has Therion always watching and listening for an opportunity. It's not that he's interested in people. What he's after is information--details, stories, rumors--that he can either exploit for profit or use in character acting.
10. Nostalgic: When he's not grounded in the present and ensuring his own survival--actually, sometimes even when he is--Therion tends to drift into memory, both good and bad. The past controls everything he does; 99.8% of his decisions are based on avoiding the wounds he's suffered before. Because it makes him predictable, it's perhaps his greatest weakness.
Sample: Have two.
Title:
- Dodger (because he's dodgy and also he has the highest evasion stat in the game and also because of the Artful Dodger)
- Lockpick
- Sneak
- Fell or Fallen ('cause... he fell off a cliff... and he's a dangerous criminal)
- Wolf (the game compares him to a lone wolf and stuff buuuuut that's boring)
- Pockets (because he pockets things and also he's pocket-sized EYYY)
Seriously, dude, I don't know, his themes are thievery and betrayal and trust, if you think up something better I am not at ALL going to be put out.
Would you like your character to be involved in a case?: I leave his fate to the dice!
Do you have any other concerns about your character?: He's going to get his hand stuck in the vending machine and I'm not sorry about it.
